DOG FASHION SHOW
Something fun and exciting that might 'wow' you??!
Animal & Pets Club(APC) is organizing an event called 'The DOG FASHION SHOW'.
This is the first ever event held in MMU Melaka campus that opportunate our lovely pets to be dressed creatively and they could win prizes!! It gives us great pleasure to announce that we are organizing this exciting event. So give ur pet (dog) a chance to dress up and show off itself for a change.
The details of the event:
Date : 15/11/09 (Sunday)
Time : 9am-12.30pm
Venue : MMU Malacca Main Field
Participating Fees : RM5 per dog
Entry Fees For Spectators : RM1
Refreshments would be provided
*Main Attraction : Best Dressed Dog & Most Talented Dog would be chosen, based on the voting by spectators.
*Also, there would be a special grooming demo by a professional groomer.
To enter, please register at our booth which would be open from 9th-12th November 2009 (Monday-Thursday) from 10am to 4pm at CLC Concourse MMU Melaka campus.
This event is also open to outsiders, so if you know anyone outside MMU who would like to show off his/her dog's talents please welcome them to do so!
Some safety precautions:
*Please ensure that your dogs are brought in cages or with a leash.
*Please also ensure that your dog has a valid license as we would not be responsible if in case MBMB makes a visit during the event. The dogs & the spectators safety are at YOUR OWN RISK although the managing crew would take all the safety precautions.

2nd Visit To SPCA Melaka
APC had another visit to SPCA Melaka on the 21st of February. This time however, we were not able to lend a helping hand in cleaning the animal shelter. Instead we had a very educational tour of the shelter and were briefed very thoroughly by the Secretary of SPCA Melaka, Ms Angeline about pet and animal cruelty.
We learned how mean pet owners can be towards their pets, how to give proper TLC( Tender Loving Care) towards our pets and also the responsibilities that having a pet can bring to a person. We were also shown the examples of how cruel and inhumane some people can be towards their pets and animals.
Although the visit was short, it was very informational. For those of you who wants to own a pet, you can try to help SPCA by adopting one at any of the numerous shelters in Malaysia. You can also help SPCA Melaka by making pet food donations. The details and location of SPCA Melaka are:

Bonnie's whistling isn't so surprising to her caregivers. The 140-pound (63.5-kilogram) orangutan at the National Zoo in Washington, D.C., has been whistling for about two decades.
Now a new study suggests that the sounds she makes could hold clues about the origins of human language.
"The assumption is that someone was whistling and she probably picked it up from them," said animal keeper and study co-auther Erin Stromberg.
Lisa Stevens, the zoo's curator for great apes and giant pandas, said the key point is that the orangutan was not trained to whistle.

Mimicking Motions
Orangutans are known to imitate humans. Bonnie, for instance, sometimes sweeps up after herself, just as her caretakers do, even though the zookeepers don't encourage this behavior.
Lead author Serge Wich of the Great Ape Trust of Iowa, said orangutans in Indonesia have been seen pretending to wash clothes.

Snake makes friends with its food
This is old news... but I find it interesting so here it is...
A rat snake and a dwarf hamster have struck up a strange friendship, living side by side at a zoo near Tokyo.
Aochan the snake was offered the rodent to munch on after it turned its nose up at its usual diet of frozen mice.
But instead of killing the hamster the snake made friends with it and the two have lived happily together in the same cage since October last year.
The hamster has been named Gohan, which means 'meal' in Japanese. Aochan has gone back to eating frozen mice.
Gohan appears to be so happy in the presence of his new buddy that keepers say he is regularly seen to fall asleep on top of the reptile.
"I don't think there's any danger. Aochan seems to enjoy Gohan's company very much," zookeeper Kazuya Yamamoto told the Associated Press news agency.
Unusual partnerships
It's not the first time predators have befriended animals they might usually view as a potential meal.
In 2002, a lioness at Samburu National Park adopted a number of baby antelopes.

Japanese-born giant panda has twins

Cute Baby Panda (Newborn)TOKYO (AFP) - A giant panda born and raised in western Japan has given birth to two cubs, a zoo official said Sunday. Seven-year-old Rauhin gave birth to a female and a male cub early Saturday morning at the zoo where she has spent her whole life, becoming the first Japanese-born panda to breed.
"We are very pleased to see that a giant panda who was born in this zoo gave birth," Tomoko Kumakawa, spokeswoman for Adventure World in Wakayama prefecture, told AFP.
Kumakawa said it was not clear whether the birth was the result of natural mating with a male giant panda the zoo brought in from China. The zoo had also conducted artificial insemination to improve Rauhin's chances of breeding.
Captive giant pandas are known for their low sex drive, which is exacerbating falling numbers as their natural habitat in southwestern China is encroached on by development.
